The Do’s and Don’t of Casino Poker

Playing poker in a casino is not like the poker game you have at home with you buddies. There are certain rules that you should know before you enter a casino poker game.

In a casino you can’t just walk up to a table and join in. Most casinos that have poker rooms also have waiting list. You will enter the poker game at the sign up desk. The will add your name to a list or you can sign up for a time slot if it is available. Many casinos will even take your name and call you when a seat in the game you are interested in playing comes available. The best time to ensure there will be seats available in the poker game of your choice is during the week.

When your turn comes around the poker room host will seat you and at this time you will buy in to the game and receive your chips. Some casinos will have the dealer take your buy in and you can even bring in your chips from other gaming tables. There is usually a minimum buy in for the table and then add-ons will be available. When you are signing up you should be aware of the minimum buy in. The lowest buy ins are usually around $30. All you chips must be purchased before the game begins.

Once the game begins there are rules and etiquette that must be followed. For example at the casino poker table you are playing for table stakes. This means that you can only play the chips in front of you on the table. When you run out of chips you must announce that you are “all in”. If other bets are placed over you available chips then that bet is placed in a side pot. You will not win this side pot even if you have the winning hand.

Now here are of some of the don’t while playing casino poker. These are mistakes that many beginner make when they are playing their first game of casino poker.
